WILDLIFE, premier 11/12/2019 Helsinki
Wildlife is a controlled chaos. The piece is loosely based on the dualistic character of Pulcinella whose modern version is embodied by the skillful six years old dancer Lyyli Mandelin. Pulcinella, one of the main characters of Commedia dell'arte, is at the same time smart, nasty and manipulative but also sensitive and lonely. In the performance , the presence of kids becomes an vital part of this acrobatic scene that is characterized by irrationality and imagination
In Wildlife, Pulcinella's imagenary world is dark and curious world where life comes across as weird and uncontrollable but also as exciting and full of adventures. The performance gives an opportunity to deal with challenging feelings by emphasizing the quirky world of childlike mind a where actions are irrational and fun but also distant from real life.
Although there are young performers on stage Wildlife is giving more than just ”cotton candy” experience for adult audience. Through these children performance is representing demands and standards of the grown up world. Kinetic Orchestra is continuing their unique and insightful dance and movement culture known from their previous works in Wildlife. Characteristic for this group is colliding and crossing overlapping movement qualities, aggression and humor.
